This weekend marks the first annual Culver City Bike, Walk & Scoot Festival. The free, familyfriendly event, which will take place Saturday July 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Culver City Middle School, is part of the City of Culver City’s city-wide Safe Routes to School Education and Encouragement Program designed to encourage more children to walk and bike to school more often and more safely.

The Program is in coordination with the Culver City Unified School District and underscores the value of healthy, active living and especially the fun of nonmotorized transportation in an effort to reduce traffic and pollution near school sites.

In addition to the bicycle skills activities, the Festival will include: Goody bags for all kids, Helmet decorating with recycled material by Transition Culver City; Group Walks lead by Walk with a Doc, Culver City; Adult Workshops by Sustainable Streets on raising smart cyclists that cover best practices for walking, biking and driving kids to schools; professional scooter riders by Team Vault and bike repairs by Chubby’s Bikes.

Hosting booths at the event with information and free goodies will be Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC); Ballona Creek Renaissance; Transition Culver City, Walk with a Doc; and representatives from Culver City’s Sustainability and Public Works.
