Five bicyclists were arrested last Thursday in Baldwin Hills for allegedly riding drunk, according the California Highway Patrol.
One of the cyclists collided with a vehicle, prompting officers and paramedics to respond to the southbound side of La Cienega Boulevard at Stocker Street about 1:30 that morning, the CHP reported.
The cyclist reportedly suffered minor to moderate injuries.
While officers were investigating the crash, a group of about 15 bicyclists approached, riding in both the “northbound and southbound lanes of La Cienega Boulevard,” the CHP reported.
“None of the bicyclists were wearing helmets, and due to the dim lighting, the cyclists were barely visible to passing motorists,” the CHP reported.
Officers said they smelled an alcohol on the riders, conducted field sobriety tests and arrested five of the riders. That rider suffered minor to moderate injuries.
Five men between the ages of 18 and 22 were arrested were taken to the CHP’s West Los Angeles Area office and cited for operating a bicycle while under the influence of an alcoholic beverage. They were later released.
