African-American artists to exhibit work at WLAC

An exhibit featuring eight African-American artists will be on display at the West Los Angeles College Art Gallery from Feb. 8 to Feb. 24.

 The exhibit, which is part of the college’s celebration of Black History Month, is curated by Molly Barnes, Doug Blechner and Pamela Smith Hudson.

June Edmonds, Fred Eversley, Mark Steven Greenfield, Regina Herod, Pamela Smith Hudson, Joe Lewis, Adolph “Kush” Simpson, and Holly Tempo are the featured artists.

Lewis has won several honors, including the Award of Excellence from Communication Arts, several National Endowment for the Arts grants, a Ford Foundation Fellowship and a Thomas J. Watson Fellowship. He has also served as the dean of University of California, Irvine’s Claire Trevor School of the Arts and the School of Art and Design at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York and as a faculty member at California Institute of the Arts.

 Greenfield has served as an administrator for the L.A. Department of Cultural Affairs and as the director of the L.A. Municipal Art Gallery. His work has been exhibited throughout the United States. and internationally in Thailand, Naples, Seoul, and Gan Dong.

The college will also host a free reception in the gallery on Thursday, Feb.  11 from 5 to 7 p.m.

The exhibit is free to the public.

The gallery is open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.  to 4 p.m.  Adjacent parking is available in the S. Parking Structure for $2.
