A dollar a day keeps illiteracy away Laura Hyslop | Thu, Aug 25 2011 01:50 PM

The Culver City Education Foundation is launching a $1 million dollar fundraising campaign entitled “All for 1” this weekend at Fiesta La Ballona, Aug. 27 and 28. The goal is to unite the community of Culver City to raise $1 million dollars in 30 days to benefit all Culver City schools.

In 2009, the voter-approved parcel tax of $1.2 million per year made a significant difference in maintaining excellence in the city’s award-winning schools. Since then, however, unprecedented annual statewide budget cuts have placed the schools in need again.

Donations are needed to help ensure success of many programs at local schools, including academic support programs for all levels of learning, art, music, school garden programs, college prep programs and classroom technology upgrades to improve the learning environment.

It is estimated that if every family in Culver City donates $1 per day, the $1 million goal would be reached. The campaign runs through Sept. 30. For more information and to donate, go to ccef90230.org.
