Culver City baseball continues a very good Centaur year

The 2017-18 Culver City High School athletic teams are having a season to remember. Girls volleyball and girls water polo won CIF champions, the football team reached the CIF semifinals and the boys and girls basketball teams captured first place in the Ocean League. The boys and girls track and field teams are unbeaten and now the baseball team is 10-1 at press time.

 

What makes this baseball team so special is that they are one of the best offensive teams in Southern California. Coach Rick Prieto’s squad is scoring runs at a record pace. The Centaurs are known for their pitching, but this year their hitting is taking center stage along with their pitching.

They have scored 83 runs and they have held their opponents to 29 runs.  Leading the way at the plate is Mason Le who is hitting a remarkable .514.  Joaquin Hines is batting .429, Tanner Duve is at .406, Dylan Singh checks in at .400, Bobby Capa is hitting .368. and Jack Bickerton is batting .333.

In the pitching department, the Centaurs are led by two freshmen pitchers, Jake Glickman and Arian Montenegro. Both pitchers are currently 4-0.  Culver City will play two more games this week in the St. Paul Tournament before they start Ocean league play next Tuesday, April 10, against El Segundo on the road at 3:15 p.m. They play their first home league game on Thursday, April 12, against El Segundo at 3:15 p.m.

The 7-7 overall and 2-1 in league play boys’ volleyball team will play their next league game on Tuesday, April 10, at Santa Monica at 3:15 p.m. and their next home game will be on Thursday, April 12 against Beverly Hills at 3:15 p.m.

The girls’ softball team is 6-6 and they start Ocean league play on Tuesday, April 10, at El Segundo at 3:15 p.m. Their first league home game is Thursday, April 12, against Lawndale at 3:15 p.m.

The boys’ lacrosse team is 5-4 overall and 1-1 in league play.  Their next game is at Peninsula on Monday, April 9 at 3:30 p.m. and they battle El Segundo at home on Wednesday, April 11, at 4 p.m.
